My friend Chaiss is a wonderful cook and shared this recipe on her blog a while back. After living in San Antonio for a while, I think I understand how Chaiss came up with the recipe. Everything down here has a Southwestern flair - so why not spice up your turkey burgers with a little kick too? The result is delicious and green turkey burgers have become a favorite dinner around our house!
ground turkey (I buy extra lean)
cheddar, pepper jack, or swiss cheese
hamburger buns, grilled with butter
salsa verde
diced green chilies
chopped cilantro
green leaf lettuce
tomatillos (or regular red tomatoes)
sliced avocado
Add some salsa verde (about 1/3 cup), 1/2 can diced green chilies and a handful of chopped cilantro to your ground meat. Season with salt and pepper. Grill hamburgers and buns, melt your cheese on the burgers, and pile on the green toppings. We serve ours with sweet potato fries. Shhhh we buy them from the freezer section, but they're also a cinch to make at home.
I love this recipe because it's flavorful, healthy, and super easy to prepare. K loves it because what guy doesn't love eating burgers for dinner? Hope you enjoy these delicious and healthy burgers!
